120-Hour TESOL Certificate Program
This certificate program is designed for individuals who are interested in teaching English as a Foreign Language. Our comprehensive curriculum covers the following areas:
- Teaching methodology in speaking, listening, reading and writing
- Language development and acquisition
- Fundamentals of English grammar
- Linguistics for teachers
- Innovative approaches to teaching
- Practicum
This well-balanced program enables participants to gain an understanding of the theoretical background in TESOL and its practical application. This program is currently offered at the CSUSB Korea Center (Korea-USA Education Institute) in Seoul, Korea.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate Program at CSUSB
This certificate program is designed for individuals who are interested in teaching English as a Second Language. The certificate program is designed to emphasize practical applications of TESOL to enable participants to:
- apply best practices in educational psychology to promote learning English;
- teach English skillfully, employing a variety of principle-based methods;
- select and develop successful materials in EFL/ESL;
- demonstrate understanding of the structure of English;
- relate the importance of the native and target cultures in language learning.
The program can be taken online or on campus and consists of four courses—Computer-Assisted Language Learning (EESL 521) plus any three of the following 500-level graduate courses:
- Foundations of TESOL (EESL 501)
- Curriculum Design in TESOL (EESL 514)
- Listening and Speaking Methods for TESOL (EESL 543)
- Crosscultural Teaching (EESL 536)
- Reading Methods for TESOL (EESL 544)
- Writing Methods for TESOL (EESL 545)
These courses may be applicable toward the M.A. in Education with a TESOL Option at California State University, San Bernardino.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or senior/last year standing at bachelor’s level and proof of English language proficiency equivalent to 535 on TOEFL. Students must maintain a “B” average to obtain the certificate.
