March 6 , 2009 • CSUSB Public Affairs Staff

Dongguk University LogoSAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A delegation from Dongguk University in Seoul, Korea, will visit Cal State San Bernardino to sign an agreement for academic cooperation between the two institutions of higher education on Monday, March 9.

Cal State San Bernardino President Albert Karnig, Provost Lou Fernandez and university administrators will greet Young-Kyo Oh, president of Dongguk University; Euiyon Cho, director of the president’s office; and Il Chung Kim, dean of international programs, for a tour of the San Bernardino campus and the signing ceremony to mark the collaborative academic effort.

Dongguk is the oldest Buddhist university in Korea. President Oh has undertaken several initiatives to revive the institution, including international exchange programs and the globalization of higher education.

The purpose of the agreement is to establish cooperative efforts between Cal State San Bernardino and Dongguk University for the exchange of students for study and research at both universities; the interchange of professors, scholars and administrators through mutual visits; the sharing of information and publication on education and research; and the implementation of cooperative education and research.

“Global education and international experiences are becoming an increasingly important part of college education as a way of broadening students’ perspectives. This agreement will provide for more opportunities to internationalize our campus and to send our students abroad,” said Dr. Tatiana Karmanova, dean of the university’s College of Extended Learning.

The delegation is scheduled to be on campus from 9 a.m. until noon, and the visit also will include meetings with representatives from CSUSB’s International Institute and International Center, as well as the College of Extended Learning.
