Computers and printers are primarily for use to generate papers for classes and other academic priorities for students of this campus. Students should not use them to chat, play games, listen to music, or browse recreational sites such as myspace.com. Since the computer labs are for academic purposes only, students who access sites that the campus considers lewd, obscene or indecent may be in violation of both the university’s student conduct policies and its sexual harassment policies. Such incidents will be referred to the Student Judiciary Board. Students enrolled in pre-college programs — and all users under 18 years of age — are never allowed to use the computers to chat or to access inappropriate web sites.
The Computer Labs and the Audio-Visual Lab are considered to be educational environments. Noisy and/or loud discussions or sounds are not allowed. Children are to be supervised at all times.
Food and non-sealable drink containers are not allowed in computer labs or the audio-visual lab. Beverage containers are to be kept on the floor and sealed at all times.
Printing is currently pay printing. The cost is 10 cents per page for regular laser printing and 50 cents per page for color laser. You will be charge for the number of pages you are printing so use Print Preview to make sure you are printing only what you want (such as no blank pages.) Be careful printing web pages they can be much longer than you think, use Print Preview to see which pages you really want. Sometimes web pages are very wide and will print on two pages in width this can result in many pages with almost nothing on them, be careful.
Pay printing is done on a high speed, high quality laser printer (HP LaserJet 4200). Documents are printed at 1200 dpi for very high quality outputs. Print card must be purchased from the Learning Center. A minimum purchase of $1 is required to print, up to $6 can be put on a card. Be careful with your card we cannot refund lost cards or unused print pages.
Due to frequent electrical problems, the Learning Center encourages students to save their documents often onto their disks. Students are strongly encouraged to have a back-up copy of each disk they have. Disks can be purchased in the Learning Center for $1. Students must present exact change to buy disks. Students are completely responsible for the care of their documents and data. Students are responsible for saving and backing-up their documents and data properly onto 3.5 inch disks. Students are responsible for getting help with saving and backing-up documents and data. Staff can help students with the possible recovery of documents and data off of some damaged floppy disks, but recovery is not guaranteed.
If you have problems with any of the equipment (such as stuck disks or "frozen" computers), please ask a lab assistant for help or notify someone at the front desk and do not try to fix it yourself. Please no not attempt to remove stuck disks; the disk drives have delicate parts that are easily broken.
Learning Center Staff are not responsible for property left in any of the labs or rooms. Forgotten or lost items found by staff will be sent to the Department of Public Safety’s lost and found storage.
Do not attempt to download software from the Internet. The security software won't let you run or install unauthorized programs. Do not attempt to install any software on the computersReturn to computer lab info page
